This page is for Georgetown adults who have snored for years, have been told they stop breathing at night, or were started on CPAP somewhere else and need someone to manage it. Our Cedar Park sleep clinic sees all of these. If you are looking for a sleep doctor in Georgetown, TX, this page covers the drive, the testing and what follow-up looks like.

Experienced adult sleep care

Dr. Minal Patel has a decade of experience in sleep medicine and is a former sleep medicine fellowship program director at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She is board-certified in sleep medicine and in pediatrics and treats adults of every age, including older adults with several health conditions and medicines to take into account.

Getting here from Georgetown

  • From northwest Georgetown: Ronald W. Reagan Blvd runs south across SH 29 and through Leander to the clinic. About 20 miles and 25 minutes on one road.
  • From Sun City: Williams Drive and D B Wood Road to SH 29, then RM 2243 (Leander Road) to Ronald W. Reagan Blvd. About 18 miles and 25 to 30 minutes.
  • From downtown: west on SH 29 and RM 2243, then south on Ronald W. Reagan Blvd. About 13 miles and 20 minutes.
  • Address: 14300 Ronald W. Reagan Blvd, Unit 405, Cedar Park, TX 78641. Map and directions.

Times are without traffic. If you get drowsy driving, ask a family member to bring you.

CPAP follow-up that keeps working

CPAP works only when it is used, and most problems with it can be fixed. At follow-up visits Dr. Patel reviews the machine's data with you and adjusts what isn't working:

  • a mask that leaks, slips or marks the face;
  • dry mouth or a blocked nose;
  • pressure that feels too strong, or air swallowing, which may mean a change of settings or a switch to BiPAP after a titration study;
  • difficulty keeping the mask on all night.

See common CPAP problems and fixes. If CPAP still can't work for you, an Inspire evaluation or other options can be discussed.

Other sleep problems that change with age

  • Waking at night or too early: insomnia is treated first with CBT-I, a structured program that doesn't rely on sleeping pills.
  • Restless legs in the evening: restless legs syndrome can be linked to low iron and some medicines, and both can be checked.
  • Sleep apnea with heart or blood pressure problems: read about sleep apnea and heart health.
  • Acting out dreams or unusual movements in sleep need an overnight in-lab study.

Home test or a night in the lab?

A home sleep apnea test suits adults with likely obstructive sleep apnea and no significant heart or lung disease. An in-lab study is used for heart or lung disease, suspected central sleep apnea, movements or behaviors in sleep, and CPAP/BiPAP titration. Dr. Patel will tell you at the first visit which one fits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about sleep medicine answered by Dr. Patel.

How long is the drive from Georgetown, including Sun City?

About 20 minutes from downtown Georgetown and about 25 to 30 minutes from Sun City and northwest Georgetown, without traffic. From the northwest side you can take Ronald W. Reagan Blvd south the whole way to 14300 Ronald W. Reagan Blvd, Unit 405, Cedar Park.

I already use CPAP but it isn't working well. Can you take over my care?

Yes. Bring your machine (or its data card) and mask to the first visit. Mask leaks, dryness, pressure that feels wrong and trouble keeping it on all night are common and usually fixable. If CPAP still can't work for you, other treatments, including an Inspire evaluation, can be discussed.

Is a sleep study safe if I have heart disease or take several medicines?

Yes, but it changes which test is right. People with significant heart or lung disease usually need an overnight in-lab study rather than a home test. Bring a list of all your medicines; some affect sleep and the test results.

Do you accept Medicaid for sleep medicine?

Yes. Medicaid and CHIP are accepted for sleep medicine patients, along with most major insurance plans.
