Ear infections (otitis media) are one of the most common childhood illnesses — most children will have at least one before age 3. At Teddy Bear Pediatrics, we provide prompt diagnosis and effective pediatric ear infection treatment.
Types of Ear Infections
Acute otitis media (AOM) — Sudden infection with pain and fever
Otitis media with effusion (OME) — Fluid behind the eardrum without active infection
Chronic otitis media — Recurring or persistent ear infections
Treatment Options
Antibiotics when bacterial infection is confirmed
Pain management with appropriate medication
Watchful waiting for mild cases in older children
Referral for ear tubes if infections are recurrent (3+ in 6 months or 4+ in 12 months)
Ear Infections and Sleep
Ear infections often disrupt sleep, especially when lying down increases pressure and pain. If your child has recurring ear infections with sleep problems, Dr. Patel can evaluate both issues.

Common questions about pediatric care answered by Dr. Patel.
How do I know if my child has an ear infection?
Common signs include ear pulling, fussiness, difficulty sleeping, fever, fluid draining from the ear, and difficulty hearing. In older children, they may complain of ear pain.
Do all ear infections need antibiotics?
Not always. The AAP recommends a 'watchful waiting' approach for some mild ear infections in children over 2. We'll determine the best approach based on your child's age, symptoms, and severity.
